I’m Not FitFluential
Remember this post where I peed myself over the excitement of being chosen to be a FitFluential ambassador? Well on Sunday I officially resigned from being an ambassador.
Now I don’t want you to get the wrong impression and think that I have anything against FitFluential. I don’t. It just honestly wasn’t for me.
Yes I try to promote a healthyish life-style. I workout, eat healthy and love being apart of the healthy living community. However, I don’t like feeling like I have to blog a certain way or suck-up to bigger bloggers. When did blogging become a popularity contest? I’m me and that’s all I want to be (and probably the reason why I’m not in the cool kids club…).
I like to drink wine, eat white bread and I don’t #eatclean all of the time. I also like to do whatever I want and blog about whatever I want, it’s my blog after all.
So, I wish FitFluential the best of luck and much success, but we have parted ways.
Don’t worry, I’ll continue to be classy as always. Probably even classier from here on out.
That’s all the nonsense I have for now!
What are your thoughts on bloggers being ambassadors for companies and/or products?

That’s no world at all in my opinion.

I think bloggers who are ambassadors for certain products hinders their creativity. Their blog becomes boring and I eventually dont read it. Its great to endorse a product but I feel that you have to adhere to their guidelines and it takes away from the uniqueness of your blog. You are always classy.

Gr8 point! I feel the same.
I am going to print out your comment and put it on my fridge “You are Always classy” has never been said to me and never will be again.

I reckon that the mark of a good blog is when the writer is talking honestly about their experiences of something, warts and all! Anything else is too corporate and less real, and therefore of less interest.
I love the personality in your blog, and anyone who wants you to dial down the fromage, booze, or updates on PartyDog’s napping habits should be kicked to the curb!

Seriously, the world needs to know about PartyDog’s napping habbits!
You are fab, but I’m sure you already know this.

Well, it never hurts to hear it, thanks!
Honestly, what is the point of recruiting a blogger, and then trying to change all the stuff that makes them unique and interesting? FitFools.

Have you seen my sponsors page? Obviously, the sponsors aren’t lining up…guess I burned that bridge. But I agree with Christina and I get totally bored when bloggers start pitching stuff to me all the time and I don’t feel it’s genuine. And then I start hate-reading and that just starts a downward spiral of me being pissed off.
Do what’s right for you. And hey, maybe we can start our own “we will never be cool kids club” or “The Rejects”. That is, until I get an incredible book deal and I’m the next Pioneer Woman (<—I'm joking about that, btw).

I love your sponsors page. I’ll sponsor you, I’ll give you $10.00 a year.
I hate-read too, it’s vicious but I can’t stop sometimes. Especially with your blog.

Good for you to decide that you want to do what you want to do!

Honestly, I don’t get FitFluential. I feel like I could almost turn it into a drinking game when I’m reading some ambasadors pages. Take a shot (of wheat grass) every time they word drop FitFluential.
I support your decision since this means you will continue to keep it real!

Can we replace wheat grass with a real shot?

I totally get this. There are some things we are told to do for the ZOOMA Ambassadors that I would not normally do. Luckily, I can just share it on FB, instead of it taking over my blog, but I hate faking it at all!

RUNNING SKIRT. I feel like I’m going to lose a little bit of runner cred if/when I wear that during the race. I know some people like them a lot, and that’s great. but (other than the ones that sparkle and if I’m with a group and we’re doing a theme race), I would never buy/wear a running skirt on my own. that’s just me. so I feel like a faker.

A+ to you for choosing your individuality over being part of the cool kids club just for the sake of being part of the cool kids club. If I want to read promotional material, I’ll start hanging around PR websites, not blogs. I mean, if you feel super strongly about a product, then by all means: be an ambassador. But doing it just because “everyone else is doing it” is stupid.

Exactly! If they just want someone to write corporate guff for them, why don’t they just write it themselves?

You did it!! I kind of want to start #fatfluential. I can tweet about it like “I’m sitting on my couch drinking wine and eating cake #fatfluential”.
In all honesty I have no issue with fit fluential BUT it seems like it’s taking over the blog world and requires bloggers to give up some of their control over their blogs. That I do not like.

HAHAH I Instagrammed a photo of my beer and veggie pizza for dinner the other night. (IMO, veggies on a pizza totally count as your servings for the day. Especially the olives.) I wanted to tag it #uncleaneats but totally chickened out. I am all for a #fatfluential hash tag.

I ate a white sesame bagel last night for dinner and when it was in teh toaster i kept thinking I have to take a pic and hastag CLEAN EATS. but then it came out of the toaster nice and warm and I stuffed my face with it immediately without taking a pic…
Haha I may be a FitFluential ambassador but I am certainly not in the “cool club,” haha I’m waaaay to awkward and have to much harry potter love for that one…

I wanted to give you a HIGH FIVE for finding what is and isn’t working for you.
I am a FitFluential Ambassador and I blog in my way and it has not hindered my relationship with FFA, in anyway. I think most decide to follow what others are doing and have yet to find their own style and brand. Eventually, I believe every blogger finds their own style and what works for them.
I lead a very healthy lifestyle, but guess what? I had frozen yogurt with chocolate candies yesterday. Oh yea, I went there! I love my Red vines, too.
Not every organization is for everyone, and it’s okay! Do I consider myself one of the “cool people”? you know, I don’t care if I am or not, really. I have made some great contacts & online friends with FFA, but FFA is only a part of my online presence, not the end all, to who I am – nor do I believe they want it to be that way.
Again, CONGRATS for finding what works for you. I am all for it. Wishing you nothing but success in all your endeavors and enjoy your wine!

I agree-I think it varies from person to person what companies work for them. I have lots of friends are are FFA and love it! Just wasn’t for me personally!

I notice it more on twitter than anywhere (I’m pretty selective with blogs that I follow – count yourself lucky – but I follow heaps more people on twitter). The most amusing thing is when you realize a new product has JUST been sent out, because it’s sprouted by everyone for a while (like Reebok) and then forgotten.
You can also tell the people who have some experience in marketing, because they’re the people that are more likely to make me want to buy something…

Congrats!
If FitFluential liked you and wanted you and said “Hey! Be an ambassador!” then you’d think they have read your blog and known what it’s like.
I don’t get FitFluential all that much…what, just because I didn’t hashtag my 12 mile run means I’m not FitFluential? Who cares?
FatFluential is so much more fun.

I resigned my FitFluential ambassadorship in May for the same reasons. I have nothing against them, it just wasn’t for me. I wasn’t big enough of a blogger and def not part of the cool crowd. I want to blog when & how I want. And I don’t want to constantly hock products.
Good for you for making the best choice for you!

Agreed on all counts. I was one of the early ambassadors, but I, too, resigned last week. I never got all that much out of the program – most of the campaigns didn’t really fit in with my style and I didn’t want to significantly change the way I was blogging. (Plus, blogging flat out isn’t a priority right now, so I was probably on the verge of being asked to leave for not posting enough.)
I think brand ambassadorships are great opportunities for bloggers if what they are required to do fits in with their style. One of the determining factors in whether or not I’ll apply for or accept one is if I’m already doing what’s required, with possibly one or two small tweaks. I’ve been a Brooks Ambassador for several years and love the program, but I’ll be leaving that one, too, at the end of this year because I’ve found an apparel brand I like more, and Brooks requires I be exclusive to their shoes AND apparel. (Not that they don’t make great stuff, because they do – I just found a brand I like better.)
To me, it all boils down to the fact that I don’t blog for the purpose of getting sponsors or making money. If I can get some sort of return out of it? Awesome. But I don’t want to turn it into a “job” because that takes the fun completely out of it, and fun is why I started in the first place.
I think it’ll be interesting to see how many people leave vs how many are asked to leave. I’m also wondering if they’re trying to cull the herd because they accepted too many people too generously at first when they were trying to get off the ground. I do wish them the best and think it’s a great fit for some people, but I’m just not one of those people.
