Happy Halloweenie!

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

Happy Halloweenie!  Growing up, my mother sorta always took charge regarding my Halloween costumes. She would have some sort of idea or some part of a costume for me.  As you’re about to see, my mother had great costume ideas.

1. Busted Princess.

Does that costume not have princess written all over it? I bet you didn’t know that a face mask is essential for any accurate princess costume. I mean you see princesses wearing masks all the time.  This princess was all about safety first as you can see from that flash-light I’m carrying that looks like a chicken wing.

2. Dog that wants to be a ninja.

I am still mad at my mom about this costume. I so badly wanted to be a ninja this year. I kept trying on the ninja costume she bought me and practicing my sweet ninja moves everyday before Halloween because I seriously could not wait. Then one day my mom decided that being a ninja was too violent and she cut out the face and made the dog ears. {Please note that I am wearing a real dog collar.}  I went from being a ninja to a dog. It turned out to be a cute costume but definitely not a ninja…

3. Mouse.. I think?

People, is this not one of the worst  costumes in the entire world?  I cannot even look at this picture because every-time I do I end up crying from laughing so hard… I mean why…

  1. Does a “costume” that  consists of a jacket, sweatpants, a hat and some mouse ears = me being a mouse for Halloween ?? Since when do mice wear big colorful puffy jackets and sweats?
  2. ARE OUR EYES CLOSED?!

Now if you take a closer look, you will see that neither of us are caught in mid-blink here- we both purposely have our eyes closed for this picture….why?!

At  least the neighborhood could always see when I was coming to their door because I apparently don’t trick-or-treat unless I’m carrying a 5lb flashlight.

But I can’t fault my mother for these costumes because left to my own devices, I’m clearly worse.

That’s all the nonsense I have for now!

What was your worst Halloween costume?

Thriller in Schiller 5K!

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012

OK I’m really excited to tell you guys about the Thriller in Schiller 5K that happened on Sunday. People, this race was honestly the funnest race I have ever run.  I keep day-dreaming about it…

I should probably get this out of the way first and let you know that for some reason unknown to us, we did NOT win the costume contest.

I mean I don’t get it… our CONEHEADS costumes were spot on…the clear winners no?

Anyway- back to to the review- this race was SO fun.  I have never run a trail race before so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Honestly, I thought there would be a path through the forest we would be running on but as always I was wrong.  This was straight up running through the woods- Blair Witch style with no path, branches in your face and mud everywhere. It was awesome.

I felt like I was running a big obstacle course- with a conehead on. (We even got to ford a river like in Oregon Trail!)   The five of us ran the entirety of the 5K together and had a blast tripping and laughing at our costumes. They never got old- 1 mile in = laughing, 2 miles in = still cracking up, 3 miles in= impressed by how durable our costumes were. Believe it or not, we ran the entire 3.1 miles in these costumes, conehead and all.

Other than the course and running in costume with my friends, my favorite part of the race was how laid back it was.  The race director did an awesome job of making it feel like a big ole party.  I wish it had been warmer so we could have stayed for the post-race beers but we were all freezing at that point so all we could think about was taking off our duct tapped costume and getting in a heated car.

For a $25.00 race (free for Linds and I thanks to Muddy Monk!) the shirt and beer glass were pretty sweet:

Overall, Muddy Monk did an awesome job and I had so much fun I’m actually EXCITED to run their 5K on December 1.  And you know that tells you how much I liked this race if I’m looking forward to running outside in DECEMBER.  I hate cold weather running but it was too much fun not to…

Sorta related-does the picture below not look like we are at Katie’s wedding as her bridesmaids?

I really wish she got married and those were are bridesmaids ‘dresses”…..hint hint. Don’t you also love how I’m 534590 feet taller then all my friends?  Speaking of being freakishly tall, checkout this gem:

Tell me that’s not the best race photo you’ve ever seen.  Really though, how is it possible for me to look so gangly in every single picture ever? This one is super gangly though, even for me.

So if you’re toying with signing up for the Schiller Chiller 5K or 10K, just do it already, trust me on this one. I mean I’m doing it too…and I know you want run with this face right?

Don’t answer that.

That’s all the nonsense I have for now!

Tell me about your favorite race!

Book Review: Dark Places

Monday, October 29th, 2012

So I’m attempting to do more book reviews on RSF since I do nothing with my life other than read books.  Anyway, we had our monthly blogger book club on Saturday and this month’s pick was Dark Places by Gillian Flynn.

A few of us had read Gone Girl and were really interested in reading another book by Gillian Flynn so the choice was pretty easy.

This book is about a woman whose family is murdered when she is younger (her mother and two sisters) and her brother is in prison doing time for the murder.  The story alternates each chapter as the woman now and her brother or mother on the day of the murder.  The story revolves around Libby (main woman) trying to figure out what actually happened the night of the murder: did her brother really commit the murders or did someone else?  As the book progresses, you learn more about that night and about the what really is UP with that brother of hers.

I really loved Gone Girl but this book was pretty darn good. Gillian is great at completely engrossing you in these twisted stories and throwing in a COMPLETE twist ending.  In other words, don’t plan on doing anything after you start this book until you finish it.  If you like creepy, weird and twisted books, this is a definite read but if you’re squeamish I would say skip it.

As you can see, book club as always was a success.  Food + friends + books = fun. We however, did not have enough food.

And people were really excited that I was there…

We really should use the term ‘book club’ loosely though considering we talk about the book for about 13 minutes each and every time. I spend most of my time drinking, my friends spend their’s glaring at me and Sierra spends her’s in her own little world…

Speaking of Sierra, she sent me pictures from book club and made sure to throw in a picture of just her dish. She would. It was good though so I’m OK with posting it.

If anyone is interested in reading along with us, this is our book for November :

That’s all the nonsense I have for now!

Have you read Dark Places? Gone Girl? Thoughts?
