Goose Island Brewery Tour
I forgot to tell you guys I had some very special guests come to Chicago the weekend to spend time with me! My brother and sister in-law came to spend the weekend in Chicago in the very same sweater!
Turns out their favorite beer is 312 (a local Chicago beer) so being the perfect sister I am, I took them on a brewery tour of the Goose Island brewery.
The tour was basically 20 minutes of standing in the the room pictured above learning about their process to make beer. It was pretty interesting considering I know absolutely nothing about beer but it would have been nice to walk around the brewery a little more. As you can see, I struggled to even get a shot inside the brewery because everyone got all Jumanji when the host announced it was drinking time and stampeded outta there.
Drinking time consisted of six different beers to try. In the picture above, the beers with the gold stars were awesome and the ones with the other symbols (what are those called?) were definitely not my thing. PartyDog however loved the ones I hated so what do I know?
The tasting was fun and it was nice to finally learn something about beer and the different types. I still have no idea what I prefer, all I know is my favorites tasted like pumpkin and chocolate- classy. Post beer drinking, we ate at the actual restaurant inside the brewery-and drank more beer.
I opted for a butternut squash and greens salad. For some reason I thought I was ordering butternut squash soup but it turns out what I ordered was a salad. Whatever, I still ate it. Definitely nothing exciting but it kept my stomach from going crazy over having nothing but lots of beer in it (it’s used to lots of wine you know, not beer).
Overall the tour was just OK. If you’re looking for something different to do in Chicago this could be an option for you. The entire tour (the tour and tasting) took about 60 minutes and only costs $10.00/person. Not bad for some afternoon drinking.
That’s all the nonsense I have for now!
Highlight of your weekend??!

That salad looks really good! The highlight of my weekend was going trail running. I sort of like going on trails now

I have the tour slated for when my mom, dad, or sister are here sometime. Seems like something fun! They all like beer so they’d be down fo’ sho. I giggled when you said you thought you ordered the soup but it was really a salad. I’ve almost done that before. I think when I see butternut squash on a menu I just assume it is soup.

Like wine, beer preference is a personal thing, so other than crappy watered down lite beers (Miller, Bud, Coors, etc), there is no “bad” beer. My brothers love IPA’s, but I personally find those are too bitter/hoppy for my liking. I used to really love wheat beers, but now I’ve moved on to stouts and brown ales. IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING WHAT TO GET ME FOR CHRISTMAS.

Oh, also, I once ordered a flatbread (pizza) that turned out to be pasta. But really, the server got it wrong. I ate it anyway. I didn’t want to be a jerk, even though he got it wrong.

I can’t believe the tour and samples were only $10! What a great thing to do with people in town. Glad you enjoyed your weekend!

I love brewery tours (even if you just stand around)because it always feels like free beer at the end! Plus there are always a few weirdos on a tour that are totally entertaining. Nothing like drinking with strangers!

WHAT?!
I WAS NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO BE INTRODUCED TO YOUR FAMILY?!
UNBELIEVABLE.

I toured a few breweries while I lived in Boston but it was always so anti-climactic…probably because I don’t really like beer. Hmm.

A lot of brewery tours are like that! Kind of boring, especially if you know anything about beer. I always trick myself into thinking museums and tours will be fun and then wind up wondering why I decided to do it.

what’s crackin’?, from Hidden Hills, California I want to mention, I like this post. However, it is funny how I ended up on your blog. I searched for buffalo limousine services on Google and ended up on your website. I must say I do like your site and will check back soon. But I need to find the limo I was originally looking for first. Have a great day! Cheers.
