2013 Resolutions
Are you sick of reading every single blogger’s 2013 resolutions? I hope so, because you’re about to read mine.
I wasn’t sure if I even wanted to post about my goals because I try to stay away from posting about things that are actually personal. I gotta keep the blog light and fun/ridiculous but I made an executive decision and decided to go ahead and post them. Let’s do 13 goals for 2013. ( I’m so clever!)
1. Be less cluttery. PartyDog and I are extremely clean people-but we tend to gravitate towards clutter. My goal for us to be less like the picture I am about to show you. What you are about to see is something very few people have had the displeasure of seeing and you might have a panic attack just from looking at it (I nearly do everyday).
2. Be more adventurous in the kitchen. I tend to make the same crap over and over again. While it’s tasty crap I still need to try different recipes. My goal is to make at least 2 new recipes a month.
3. Try more fitness classes. Last year was the first year I ever took ANY fitness classes ever and it made me realize how much I love them and how fun it is to try something new. I want to try even more this year.
4. Volunteer at least 1x/month. I tried to volunteer last year- I even went to the orientation/training but I never got matched with a student. This year, I’m going to work a little harder at finding something to volunteer at.
5. Continue to build relationships. Not to toot my own horn (just kidding, I’m totes tootin) I’m really proud of how proactive I was in finding friends in 2012. I’ve made some really incredible friends and I want to continue to try and see them as much as I possibly can…to the point where they begin to hate me because they see me so often.
6. Blog more book reviews. I read a ton but I very rarely blog about the books I read. I personally love reading book reviews so I’ll be posting at least one review a month.
7. Explore Chicago more. Now that we’ve been here a year and half, we’ve found our restaurant staples and tend to only go to those places. My goal for 2013 is to try at least one new restaurant a month.
8. Stop buying new books and read the ones I own. This is going to probably be the hardest one for me. I honestly have about 40 books that I have yet to read sitting on my book shelf. I’ve decided unless it’s a book for book club or I go home and get to visit my favorite used book store, I will NOT buy any books until I read some of the ones I’ve already bought.
9. Unplug more often. I need to work on being less obsessed with instagram/twitter/blogs/GOMI this year. I’m thinking one weekend a month where I disable the smart phone features on my phone to detox my brain of social media.
10. Travel to 1 new place. I’m a little obsessed with constantly making my life an adventure. Last year we went to California and had a blast. This year, I want PartyDog and I to travel to 1 new place for some serious exploring.
11. Do something completely foreign/crazy to me. Sometimes I see Groupons for things like trapeze classes or swing dance lessons and always think it would be fun to try but never do. This year I plan to actually do 1 thing that I would never normally do.
12. Date PartyDog more often. PartyDog and I have been together almost 6 years which means are have a pretty established routine for our life. I would however like for us to try and ‘date’ each other more this year-whatever the heck that means, I don’t even know.
13. Try to appreciate my body more. Instead of focusing on what my body looks like and the things I feel need improvement, I want to shift that focus to appreciating all the amazing things my body is capable of doing.
I’m stressed just reading through those. 13 resolutions may be a little too much but whatever. I guess we’ll see how I do!
Spill it-what are your resolutions this year!

Great resolutions! I also need start accepting my body for what it is. If you ever want to explore Chicago more i know a lot of nooks I’m the city that you may enjoy. Have you ever tried a hot yoga class? I really enjoy them.

I don’t like yoga-I’ve finally come to terms with that!

Great post! Check out my post from Sunday – there is a link from Zealous Good on finding volunteer opportunities. Also Gilt City has $80/unlimited month of classes at shred 415 which is my fave off the hook exercise class (30 min of running though if your foot can handle). I can’t wait to read your book reviews! I have a few to write, too.
I share many of these but especially appreciating my body and less clutter!

Will do!

I hate your buy fewer books resolution. You own like every book ever, meaning I can borrow every book ever. Better than the library! Other than that, awesome resolutions. Particularly the ones I can benefit from – new restaurants and trapeze classes.

I love your resolutions! Especially 1, 2, and 9. Yes yes yes!
(and I originally typed “resolustions” – freudian slip??)

HAHA that cracked me up!

Not buying new books doesn’t mean you can’t borrow them… right?
I love the declutterizing (new word- ha!) and appreciating your body more resolutions- two I probably should take on myself but won’t because I still secretly love clutter and hiding random things in all of the little nooks and crannies in my apartment. Maybe next year?

I’m scared of both of you.
The trapeze thing is fun. I signed up through living social. And even though I doubt I’ll do it again, I’m so happy to say I’ve done it. Total rush. GO FOR IT.
Also, I’m with you on trying new fitness classes. My gym offers them free with membership, but I never go. I’m sort of a wus when it comes to that stuff because I have no coordination for Zumba and am not a fan of group yoga (or yoga).

This wasn’t really a resolution until this morning (better late than never?) but I want to focus more on what I do have going for me rather than what’s going wrong this year. I imagine the sum total of things that go right is much, much higher than the the number of little things that go wrong, but I like to focus on those little things and make them into big things that bring me down even though soooo many other things are going right! I’m now making a running list of the things that go right, even the tiniest things like not having to wait too long for the train in the morning, so that I focus on those things rather than the negative things.
In my experience, dating means going out and doing things with a person and then coming back to your apartment and agonizing over whether or not he’s into you/wondering if he’ll ever call again (and proceeding to convince yourself of every reason why he won’t)/questioning whether or not what you just did with him was actually a date or if it was just the two of you hanging out/generally driving yourself insane and coming to the conclusion that boys are stupid and should probably be avoided at all costs. So maybe the best way to date PartyDog, then, would be to make sure one of you spends the night somewhere else after you go out to dinner or whatever and then refuse to contact each other so you get the full dating experience.

I’ve decided to make my goals ‘fairly’ vague and give myself more firm actions each month. I’m bad at doing something all year.
1. Try new things & go new places.
2. Save more money and get on track to buying a house.
3. Be cleaner around the house (you think that closet is bad? I win. clutter queen.)
4. Stay on top of projects (I’m so bad at starting and never finishing things..)
5. Send more card love – I know this is kind of random but I love getting cards in the mail, I figured I should send more

Have you checked out Hands On Chicago? (My bad, apparently it’s Chicago Cares, part of the Hands On Network, in Chicago.) I’m a volunteer leader for Hands On Portland and I’m so impressed with their network. Basically, their goal is to make volunteering easy and enjoyable for people. There’s no daily/weekly/monthly/yearly commitment. Just check out the calendar and sign up for a project that sounds interesting to you. (I totally sound like a sales person. I just really like this organization.)

La Ciudad is a super cute, tiny little Mexican place perfect for date night! It’s far-ish north for you, on Sheridan, but I figure you say you want to explore and eat at new places and date PD more…so there ya go! It’s BYOB so bring some red with ya!

I like the “Date PartyDog more often” resolution. Maybe I should follow that too (although not for your PartyDog… mine!)

Number 8 is one that I really need to work on too! I’m a crazy book lover and cannot resist purchasing books I want to read. The problem is that now I have a crazy collection going and have about 30 new books to read.
