The Cheer Squad

January in Chicago is not fun in case you haven’t heard. It’s cold, windy, icy and did I mention cold?  So why not have a half-marathon along the Lakeshore path in January? Great idea!

I personally do not enjoy running outside unless the weather is perfect so the thought of running 13.1 miles in Chicago in January when it’s 12 degrees is not appealing to me in any shape or form.  My friends however are crazy and decided they would love nothing more than to run this half.  Naturally I couldn’t be left out so I put together a cheer squad:

Aka: Sierra, Linds, Katie, Myself and Em.

Motivating right? If our faces somehow weren’t inspirational enough for our running friends we made really amazing signs:

Talented- yes I know. Back to cheering.  Despite the cold (12 DEGREES PEOPLE), the race was actually a really fun one to spectate! Our first spot was located around mile 4 and our second around mile 11 which meant we were out there for about 2 hours.

My cheer philosophy is the crazier the better.  When I run a race, I LOVE to see someone out there cheering, dancing and acting a fool-that to me is a major boost.  So that’s what I did. I danced, I screamed (and later developed a cough) and cheered on all the runners that were crazy enough to do this. I’m fairly certain the rest of the cheer squad kept slowly inching their way away from me….whatever I’m so glad we all went out to cheer! With the race being on such a cold day not many people came out to spectate so our cheer squad worked extra hard to give peeps a little boost.

My favorite part? As we were walking back to the car I spotted the Muddy Monk himself (Art) running and jamming out to his music. He looked like he was having a BLAST.  Come to think of it, 90% of the runners out there seemed to be having a great time.  Isn’t that what running is all about?? Seeing people with a big smile on their face during a run is my absolute favorite thing.  Knowing people are out there having run-highs gets me through those hours of boredom on the elliptical…

Congrats you crazy F^3 runners!

That’s all the nonsense I have for now!

What has been your favorite race (or sporting event)  to spectate??

I loved seeing you guys out there! Thank you so much for cheering us on! Haha I loved that poster! I didnt see that it said Its all Greek. Did you see the yeti run past you guys? I gave him a high five! :) I get really obnoxious at baseball games because I love cheering on my precious White Sox. I would love to spectate for the Chicago Marathon or any marathon for that matter.

Those signs are so awesome. That photo of me with the Bert hat is quite outstanding. And pasta and sauce is totally my signature dish. Totally. Thanks so much for coming out to cheer us on!

You guys made the most amazing signs! Spectating is so fun! The crazier you act, the better! My throat always hurts when I am done though (TWSS? HAHAHAHA).

Is it warm enough for you to run outside today, lady? :)

From here on out I’m going to keep you up to date on my racing calendar so you can come spectate me…but mostly so you can make a sign for me, because those are awesome.

In all seriousness, though, I think it’s fantastic that you guys willingly stood outside for two hours on Saturday to cheer on the runners. That’s some inspiring dedication.

If I ever see you at a race in a Snuggie raising the roof, I may just poop my pants in mid stride.
