A Very Muddy Race Season
It’s no surprise that I’m sort of in love with Muddy Monk races. As I’ve mentioned before, being injured and not able to run more than 3-4 miles blows-which means that when I do actually run those couple miles, I want them to be FUN. I don’t care about time, I could care less if I PR, I just want to have a good time with my peeps and refuel with a drink or two post-race.
And that my friends is why I love Muddy Monk races. They bring together running (trail running which is even more fun), friends, beer, music and a good time-every race.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve been thinking about sneaking in a couple 5K’s this year to see how fast my gorilla legs can take me but then I think about how I don’t want to put that pressure on myself. Why does it matter if I break 24 minutes? How will that affect my life in any way except for maybe some personal “hellz yea.” What I tend to remember are experiences where I have a blast, not ones where I put a ton of pressure on myself and then freak out, and then maybe accomplish the goal I set out for myself. I’m just not that kinda person.
I am however the kind of person that loves running through the woods while catching up with a friend (and maybe in a Conehead costume) and hanging out for the post-race party. Again, why I love Muddy Monk.
So my race calendar this year (which doesn’t account for much since I do need some stupid surgery and all to really run) pretty much consists of Muddy Monk races. And I couldn’t be more siked. My race goals for 2013 are to have as much fun as possible, drink a lot of post-race beers and hang out in the woods with my friendies (how creepy does that all sound?).
My race season kicks off next Saturday, March 9, with PUNK THE MONK and I plan on kicking Art’s bootay. And maybe Punk’n him Ashton Kutcher style in the process….I wonder how he feels about tiny little top hats… There’s still some spots left so come out and have a blast with us!
So cheers to a fun 2013 race season! Hope to see you on the trails!
And I of course am hoping I see my race doppleganger out there too!
What are your race/workout goals for 2013?

I’m so excited for Punk the Monk! I saw in the 10 day forecast that the high for the Friday before the race is 45 degrees. Fingers crossed it’s beautiful on Saturday!

Too much ganglyness for one post?

I love that one of your goals is to drink a lot of post-race beers. I think you should aim for a yearly post-race beer PR in 2013. I have faith in your ability to make that happen.

For the record: I love tiny top hats, you probably will PUNK me, and beer will only be $3 following the race this time, so make sure to lure some friend into driving for you!

Have fun! I want to hear all about it. And you’d better wear a tiny hat.

Yay! LOVE Muddy Monk! Are you doing the Double Down or is that too long?

Yay! I can’t wait to do some of the muddy monk races this year. Drinking beer in the woods is what all the cook kids do. At least thats what they did in Rockford

Thanks for sharing this Kelsey! My fiancé just started running and I think a Muddy Monk would make a perfect (and fun!!) first-race for him, and the perfect way for me to get back into running too!

I’ve never heard of a Muddy Monk run but that looks like a blast. I am all for exciting races and post race beers. I love that 312 after the Shamrock Shuffle : )
