Weirdo

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 7:09 am, by Kelsey

Sometimes when I’m in the middle of doing something routine I stop and wonder if what I’m doing is one of my weird quirks or if it’s what everyone else does.  I’m definitely a really weird person but I don’t think my quirks are that weird…

Anyway, I’ve been thinking about what my ‘major quirks’ are and I’ve even tried to change a few-with no luck of course.  For me, they make me feel more comfortable and make me feel more ‘at home’ if that makes any sense. So here are some of mine…don’t judge me….

1.  I wear a ton of hairbands on my right wrist.

This seriously drives my mother insane. I’ve been wearing a ridiculous amount of hairbands on my wrist for as long as I can remember.  I’ve tried to narrow it down to just two-one tight band and one loose band but I just can’t do it. As you can see however, I have cut down to just wearing 4 bands so that is a little victory but…..I like wearing 23902 bands.

2. Chewing gum at the gym.

This is honestly sorta dangerous…chewing gum while working out?  When I swam, I even had to chew gum while in the pool (I really don’t recommend that…).  Also, it has to be a super minty flavor like Eclipse because chewing fruity flavored gum at the gym is disgusting-trust me on that one.  If I don’t have gum while working out, all I can focus on is how mad I am that I don’t have any gum.

3. My tea mug.

I drink a lot of tea but when I’m at home I can only drink tea out of my favorite mug.  If it’s dirty, I’ll wash it just so I can drink it out of my mug.

4. In the evening I have to sit on the right side of the couch but if I’m home during the day I can only sit on the left side.

I think the right side mentally makes me feel like it’s almost time for bed while the left makes me less tired during the day?

5. I have to carry every single medicine I could ever need in my purse with me at all times.  I’m one of those people that if something hurts I fix it.

How ridiculous is that? Also, where is the cap for that last bottle??

So those are some of mine and now it’s your turn to tell me some of yours!

That’s all the nonsense I have for now!

I’ll share one. When I go to bed at night I must have total quiet but, if I take a nap in the afternoon the TV must be on.

My swimmer friend tried to explain to me how it’s possible to chew gum while swimming, but I am still unconvinced. I always get a little water in my mouth which is also disgusting, but it happens.
I have some random quirks and my boyfriend could probably tell you a lot more. One of the notable ones is I like to leave the plastic film covering on new things. Like the plastic film that comes on laptop screens and back and cellphones. Matt always pulls it off and I get mad!

I love how you put a little hat on your head. Perrrfect!

I definitely have toenail phobias and Ian would tell you they were quirks. I also like to have like every light in the apartment on when I’m home and to plug things in like my laptop, cell phone, etc. My quirks seem to use a lot of electricity…

I think my quirks are the opposite of Lindsay’s haha. I insist on using as little electricity as possible, which means I turn off all the lights except the ones I absolutely need to have on, unplug any appliance I can (the toaster, for example, is almost always unplugged. I’d unplug the TV, too, except our remote is on its last legs and every time you unplug it the TV resets itself and doesn’t pick up stations like it’s supposed to). My roommate, on the other hand, leaves everything plugged in, turns on and leaves on all three separate light fixtures she has in her room whether she’s in there or not, AND RUNS HER AIR CONDITIONER EVERY SINGLE NIGHT REGARDLESS OF THE TIME OF YEAR. LIKE TODAY. Auuuuuuggggggggghhhhhhh drives. me. bonkers. I just want to have a nonexistent ComEd bill. Is that so much to ask?? Apparently.

But do you ever use any of the hairbands on your wrist? I can totally see needing to wear them, though. It’s kind of how I am with my rings and my watch. If I’m not wearing them I feel naked.

Other quirks? If there is clutter it needs to be in neat piles. Jason just lets stuff ooze all over the place and I just want to put it in neat, tidy piles. Also, I get irrationally angry when people put recyclables in the trash. Yes, I will fish them out and put them in the correct bin.

During my CPR training we talked about how dangerous it is to chew gum while you work out ;)

I have a favorite mug I prefer to use. Damn, it doesn’t have me and Data on it though.

My friend Laura does the gum thing at the gym. She swears by it. I think it’s a bit crazy, but as this post implies, to each their own.

My roomie and I have unofficial claimed territories on the couch. If we have people over and I have to sit anywhere else, I’m thrown. Just call me Sheldon Cooper.

Oh man I always ALWAYS have to have a hairtie on my wrist at all times. It’s either in my hair or on my wrist. It’s a habit I picked up back in elementary school and it’s lasted ever since. And I also always have to drink tea from the same mug! I have one mug for tea, another special mug for loose-leaf tea, and another mug for coffee. It’s a tough life we live…
