Question For Ya {8}….
I was talking with a few friends the other day about my favorite topic (which in cause you don’t know by now is hygiene). As I’ve mentioned before, I’m overly obsessive about my hygiene- I take at least two showers a day, wash my hands entirely too often (they’re bleeding 90% of the time…) and can’t stand dirty clothes or sheets.
I’ve always been like this. For as far back as I can remember, I’ve never let my mother, father or grandmother change the sheets on my bed. The bed has to be made a certain way, the sheets must be unwrinkled and pillows shall be fluffed. Every single night-it’s part of my routine. I may or may not insist on PartyDog showering before he gets into bed too…(hey I want my sheets as clean as possible!)
Anyway-now that you know how crazy I am, I do have a question I’m curious to know your thoughts on. While talking to my friends about hygiene we got on the topic of eating in bed. The mere thought of eating in my bed grosses me out….crumbs? Food? In my bed? Gross. After asking a few other people, I found that I was the minority here-everyone seemed to think eating in bed was a luxury! I tried my best to hide the horror on my face but….if I ever found a crumb in my bed, I would immediately have to strip the sheets and put on new ones.
So, my question for you this week is:
For or against eating in bed??

I’m with you. It drives me absolutely crazy when my husband eats in the bed. Hate it!

Ah! he likes to??

Against!
For me, it’s not so much a hygiene thing, but I have super sensitive skin. Like, I can feel ONE STUPID HAIR in my shirt that will drive me batty until I FIND AND REMOVE it. I can’t even imagine crumbs.
Shudder.

I’m with you Kelsey! No-one at my house eats in bed. We’ve never even allowed food in the bedrooms. How is it a luxury to make food in the kitchen, carry it to the bedroom, crawl into bed and eat it and then have to take the mess back into the kitchen? Seems to me it’s easier just to eat in the kitchen.

That’s too much work!

Totally against it unless you are so sick that you can’t leave the bed, then it’s cool. Just make sure to clean the sheets and get rid of the crumbs the second you are feeling better!
Or unless you make popcorn and put on a Martin Lawrence movie…then it’s all good!

HAHAHA-or what about just the show Martin?

Um… wtf. Why would you eat in bed? Donotget. I mean, I don’t care about hygiene… but why are you people bringing food in to the bedroom?

So…how would you feel if I told you that I washed my comforter for the first time in about two years on Monday? And that I wash my sheets *maybe* three times per year?
(I blame my upbringing for this. My mom rarely washed our bedding–usually only when the weather was nice so she could hang the sheets outside to dry–so it’s just not something I’m used to. Also, making my bed after washing my bedding sucks. Although I do clean everything if I’ve been sick…does that make it any better?)
Anyway. I’m definitely a segmented live-er, in the sense that I prefer to use spaces the way they were intended. This is the kitchen, therefore I make food here. This is the table, therefore I eat here. This is my bed, therefore I sleep here. I generally try to keep things pretty separate that way, which means I rarely eat in bed, but it’s not so much a result of not wanting crumbs in bed as it is a result of bed ? table, you know? Although if I’m feeling lousy but am also hungry, I will be all means eat in bed.

Bethany, this is another thing we have in common! Sadly so, for both of us. I love hanging my sheets outside to dry so I only wash my sheets at my parent’s house (well those and the rest of my laundry).
I eat in bed too. I’m not even ashamed. I have snacks while reading my books in there because I like reading there more than I like reading on the couch.

Do people really eat in bed? Or in the bedroom? I don’t understand… we eat in the kitchen and maybe when I’m alone I’ll eat on the couch in front of the tv but neverevereverever in the bedroom.

NO EATING IN BED! I live in a studio & I swear by this rule. I may drink coffee in bed once in a long while but that’s it. Bed is for sleeping & one other thing I can think of off the top of my head…

My current stance on this is I do not do this. Firstly, my room is up a steep staircase from the main/kitchen level. Secondly, I do not have a tv in my room. So it seems silly to walk through the living room, with a perfectly good tv and comfy couch, to retrieve food and walk back up the staircase of death to eat and sit there and… stare at the wall?
However, the bf has a tv in his room. And a king size bed. And it’s his sheets… soooooo… I don’t think I’d pass up the option if presented to me. But I’d still prefer a table.
I guess if a tray with a beautiful spread of deliciousness was presented to me…
It’s really just all circumstantial.

no eat in bed. It is hassle to do so. Maybe Mother’s Day or flu day. But then served and cleared by other. That is ok. Otherwise, no eat in bed.

No crumbs, no wrinkles, and sheets MUST be tucked in as tight as possible!

I’m not a fan of eating on the bed either! This might be weird, but I also get really uncomfortable if anyone (including myself) sits on my bed in like jeans/ clothes worn all day. I wouldn’t want to lay down on a random chair or couch so the thought of sitting in my bed in the same clothes just grosses me out!

We are so alike in many ways but so, so different with cleanliness. I HATE SHOWERING. I wash my hair at most 3 times a week and generally don’t even ‘rinse off’ my body everyday. And I workout daily. Usually. Anyway. I do eat in my bed but I have very limited seating in my tiny apartment. So it is necessary sometimes. I’m also always eating…

I’m all for coffee in bed, especially during the winter when I want to stay bundled up.
And I’ll eat in bed at a hotel.
[Reply]
Against!! I wouldn’t sleep all night knowing I was laying in food particles. EWYUCK

The crumbs make me crazy, but I have done it a few times.

Wow, I feel really gross and dirty in comparison. I’m lucky if I take a shower everyday … haha. The only time I’ll shower twice is if I work out twice. And I wash my sheets … I don’t even want to tell you how infrequently. But I promise I wash my hands when I’m supposed to.
So of couse I eat in bed. But my bed is also my “desk” so it’s like eating at my desk.

However, I limit myself to oatmeal and cookies when eating in bed. And drinking coffee.

I don’t have much furniture so I pretty much always eat in my bed. Sometimes I eat in the kitchen, but its a metal folding chair, so not really comfortable. My bed is more comfortable.
I am pretty strict about not wearing clothes that have been worn outside on my bed though that just grosses me out. I always change when I get home either into pjs or my “house clothes” which sounds a little strange typing it out here, but its just a pants and shirt I only wear at home. I don’t want nasty public transit germs on the bed were I sleep!

I am also against eating in bed. I am a clean freak, and if I ever encountered crumbs – well, good luck to my husband:)

No eating in bed here! Except when deathly ill and crackers and being horizontal are all I can manage.
