Overnight Oatmeal- You Need This

Friday, January 13th, 2012

I have something wonderful to share with you.  On the 2390203 health and fitness blogs I read I keep coming across something called overnight oats.  It’s no secret that I love, adore even dream of oatmeal.  There are days I have it for breakfast lunch and dinner.  Oatmeal is my favorite.  Naturally, when I came across a new way to make oatmeal I was so excited I stood up and started doing the macarana, followed by the train and then the YMCA.  PartyDog fell in love with me all over again.

What are overnight oats?  Well friends, let me tell you.  Overnight oats are oats that you simply soak in various ingredients overnight in the fridge and stuff your face with in the morning.  No cooking of oats is involved.  Weird right?  Cold oatmeal? Uncooked oatmeal?  I was hesitant too, but trust me thisissogoodiwantitagainrightnow.  And the best part is it’s oober good for you.  Oatmeal itself is a superfood, but mixing it with almond milk, yogurt and fruit, you are basically Superman.  I’m flying right right now actually.

Overnight Oatmeal:

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (any milk will do here, I used almond because it’s good)
  • 2-3 spoonfulls of your favorite Greek yogurt (I used Chobani vanilla)
  • 1-2 drops of vanilla
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • Tiny drizzle of honey
  • 1 tbs of raisins
  • 1/2 banana or other fruit you fancy

Mix first 7 ingredients in a bowl or tupperware container.  It should look like mush (appetizing huh?).  Place saran-wrap over bowl, or top on tupperware and put in fridge overnight.  In the morning when you are ready to chow down, give it a mix and add the banana or fruit you desire.  The oatmeal should be a little thicker than last night, but still look fairly mushy. Stuff your face and thank me for bringing this into your life.

That’s all the nonsense I have for now!
